Blast from the Past

These are from an assignment my senior year of high school. We were supposed to pick a song and take pictures to go along with it. I used the song kissing you from Romeo and Juliet. I spray painted the bottom of a clear tub blue and put floating lily pads with these pictures on them in the water. I just found a few of them the other day when going through my old photo supplies and thought I'd post them.

Old Negatives, New Art

Scanned in some of my old contact sheets from photo one back in the old darkroom days and made some new art.

Chido Chido

This is a mixture of various kinds of photography I do. The middle image I took with a pinhole camera (a camera you make out of a shoe box) of the back of my foot standing in the courtyard of the art department. I then went into the dark room and made a positive image of the negative and also layered a poem over the top of the image so when the light shone threw from the enlarger the words seeped through onto the image. Next I scanned the image into photo shop and collaged it with various bright images I took in mexico last summer to create an indie shadow box feel to the image. Or at least thats what I get from it. Let me know what you think. This is my favorite kind of art.

Inspiration

Gregory Crewdson, an artists who's work I find inspirational. There seem to be mixed messages at first glance. A sense of sexuality lingering in the air. The photo is so tightly constructed that it looks as if it could be a films still. This photo seems to be directly linked to the fantasy industry of Hollywood's profit making illusions. Crewdson seems to be embracing and manipulating the image by using high end advertising industrial lighting. He pretty much exploits every technical possibility to achieve his effects. Along with this is women laid out purely for the pleasure of the viewer. This image becomes fascinating because its artfulness seduces.
